Abstract

Purpose

The purpose of this paper is to present the influence of inter-turn short circuit faults (ITSF) on electromagnetic vibration in high-voltage line-starting permanent magnet synchronous motor (HVLSPMSMS).

Design/methodology/approach

In this paper, the ampere–conductor wave model of HVLSPMSM after ITSF is established. Second, a mathematical model of the magnetic field after ITSF is established, and the influence law of the ITSF on the air-gap magnetic field is analyzed. Further, the mathematical expression of the electromagnetic force density is established based on the Maxwell tensor method. The impact of HVLSPMSM torque ripple frequency, radial electromagnetic force spatial–temporal distribution and rotor unbalanced magnetic tension force by ITSF is revealed. Finally, the electromagnetic–mechanical coupling model of HVLSPMSM is established, and the vibration spectra of the motor with different degrees of ITSF are solved by numerical calculation.

Findings

In this study, it is found that the 2np order flux density harmonics and (2 N + 1) p order electromagnetic forces are not generated when ITSF occurs in HVLSPMSM.

Originality/value

By analyzing the multi-harmonics of HVLSPMSM after ITSF, this paper provides a reliable method for troubleshooting from the perspective of vibration and torque fluctuation and rotor unbalanced electromagnetic force.

Abstract

Purpose

The purpose of this paper is to investigate the inverse problem of determining a time-dependent heat source in a parabolic equation with nonlocal boundary and integral overdetermination conditions.

Design/methodology/approach

The variational iteration method (VIM) is employed as a numerical technique to develop numerical solution. A numerical example is presented to illustrate the advantages of the method.

Findings

Using this method, we obtain the exact solution of this problem. Whether or not there is a noisy overdetermination data, our numerical results are stable. Thus the VIM is suitable for finding the approximation solution of the problem.

Originality/value

This method is based on the use of Lagrange multipliers for the identification of optimal values of parameters in a functional and gives rapidly convergent successive approximations of the exact solution if such a solution exists.

Abstract

Purpose

This paper aims to relate Taoist Yin‐Yang thinking to Western nomology in terms of trust and trust building, seeking to explore the question of how trust impacts on conflict management.

Design/methodology/approach

A moderating model of trust in conflict management is proposed. Investigations and observations using primary and secondary data are described. Three cases are presented to explain the moderating effects of adjusting activities and trust on conflict and negotiation.

Findings

The proposed model was supported. The following findings have been obtained: keeping a balance between adjusting others and adjusting self is a key to resolving conflict; creating and retaining harmony is a bridge that leads both sides in conflict and negotiation to adjust themselves; taking indirect actions through relationships instead of by direct actions through power is a good way to trigger a state of harmony; and trust is shown to be the original driver and source that contribute to adapting actions, harmony and eventually to a win‐win negotiation outcome.

Research limitations/implications

The investigations were limited in time and scope and consequently not conclusive.

Practical implications

This research may provide practical implictions for people and organizations interested in conflict resolution who wish to: take a position that values trust; take indirect actions through relationship instead of direct actions through power; create and retain harmony between both sides in conflict and negotiation; and keep a balance between adjusting others and adjusting self, so to achieve win‐win negotiation outcomes.

Originality/value

This research may enhance the understanding of Taoist Yin‐Yang thinking by linking it with the Western nomology.

Abstract

Purpose

The purpose of this paper is to present a general framework of Homotopy perturbation method (HPM) for analytic inverse heat source problems.

Design/methodology/approach

The proposed numerical technique is based on HPM to determine a heat source in the parabolic heat equation using the usual conditions. Then this shows the pertinent features of the technique in inverse problems.

Findings

Using this HPM, a rapid convergent sequence which tends to the exact solution of the problem can be obtained. And the HPM does not require the discretization of the inverse problems. So HPM is a powerful and efficient technique in finding exact and approximate solutions without dispersing the inverse problems.

Originality/value

The essential idea of this method is to introduce a homotopy parameter p which takes values from 0 to 1. When p=0, the system of equations usually reduces to a sufficiently simplified form, which normally admits a rather simple solution. As p is gradually increased to 1, the system goes through a sequence of deformations, the solution for each of which is close to that at the previous stage of deformation.
