Abstract

Purpose

This paper aims to examine the influence of a brand’s innovativeness and green image on customers’ sensory, affective, cognitive, relational and behavioral brand experience and, through that, on brand satisfaction.

Design/methodology/approach

To collect primary data, the study used a list of 1,754 e-mail addresses from a hotel in Norway. Of the invited respondents, 283 completed the questionnaire.

Findings

The study shows positive influences of perceived brand innovativeness and green image on the experience dimensions. The influences of the brand experience dimensions on brand satisfaction are mixed. The results indicate that the brand experience dimensions partially mediate the influences of perceived brand innovativeness and green image on brand satisfaction. The study also shows a positive influence of perceived brand innovativeness on perceived green image.

Practical implications

The paper highlights the importance of carefully managing brands’ innovativeness and green image to improve brand experiences and satisfaction with the hotel.

Originality/value

Few studies exist on hotel brand experience, and therefore, future studies should identify antecedents and consequences of hotel brand experience (King, 2017; Khan and Rahman, 2017). This paper examines the role of hotel brand experiences with an explicit focus on the antecedents of such experiences.

Abstract

Purpose

The purpose of this paper is to explore the consumer adoption literature on local food. This study discusses the applicability of traditional models of adoption and diffusion to understand new phenomena such as the development of local food networks.

Design/methodology/approach

A systematic review of the literature on the adoption and diffusion of local food systems was conducted.

Findings

A total of three main challenges within the literature on the adoption and diffusion of local food are identified: the lack of a clear definition of what constitutes local food, divergent market assumptions and divergent consumer assumptions. In addition, this study points to the need for new perspectives on consumer adoption and diffusion of local food practices.

Originality/value

This paper provides an overview of current local food research streams and contributes to the literature on consumer adoption and diffusion of local food consumption.

Abstract

Purpose

Ambient-assisted living (AAL) is one solution to the challenges of healthcare systems in an aging population. Using the “ecosystem adoption of practices over time” (EAPT) as a theoretical lens, this study explores and describes three elements of AAL adoption: (1) the AAL practices in which the technology is embedded (i.e. object of adoption), (2) the older adult's adoption ecosystem (i.e. subject of adoption) and (3) the change of adoption practices over time (i.e. temporality of adoption).

Design/methodology/approach

Qualitative interviews with three actor groups in the ecosystem: clients, relatives and home nurses.

Findings

The study identifies six categories of AAL practices. Clients, relatives and nurses interact and integrate their resources in carrying out these practices. Some of the practices have developed, or are expected to develop, over time.

Originality/value

The study applies a novel theoretical perspective on how AAL technology is embedded in practices performed by different actors in the adoption ecosystem. This broadens the conceptualization of what is being adopted compared to traditional adoption research.

Purpose

Componentization is a common approach in manufacturing that is suggested to lead to increased innovativeness at the firm level. Componentization has recently been given attention as a relevant approach for service providers. However, due to differences between services and manufactured products, and due to the diversity of the service sector, it is not obvious to what degree the application of componentization is relevant for all service providers. The purpose of this paper is to explore the usefulness of componentization for specialized service providers in the public sector.

Design/methodology/approach

The paper applies an interventionist research design, in which the componentization approach is implemented in one case organization.

Findings

The paper finds that componentization increases the service orientation of specialized public sector organizations (PSOs) and improves the ability of the top management to manage and control specialized PSOs. Perhaps most importantly, the paper determines that componentization represents a foundation and a baseline for identifying service innovation ideas in specialized PSOs.

Practical implications

The practical experiences reported in the paper may provide guidance to managers of specialized service providers who are seeking for ways to increase the efficiency, flexibility, and innovativeness of their organization.

Originality/value

By empirically testing and evaluating a componentization approach, the paper contributes to the knowledge base of how componentization increases the efficiency, flexibility, and innovativeness of specialized service providers. In addition, the paper demonstrates that the application of an interventionist research approach may be useful when the research aims to develop, adopt, or evaluate new service management methodologies.

Abstract

Purpose

In many settings, the users are mobile (e.g. away from their desks) while high quality multimedia telephony equipment has fixed locations. This may result in unsuccessful multimedia calls and motivates a context aware system which supports session mobility. This paper aims to address these issues.

Design/methodology/approach

The approach is to utilize state‐of‐the‐art in‐context awareness and integrate this into a real time telecom system based on SIP. System requirements are formulated and the system is designed, implemented and (technically) tested.

Findings

The paper contains a thorough analysis of why baseline SIP and SIP REFER alone cannot solve our case and why a new SIP extension is introduced. The solution is evaluated and compared to solutions such as “virtual terminals”.

Research limitations/implications

It is pointed out that the context model does not directly support roaming between two different business domains. This issue is however of limited impact in an enterprise setting. The current prototype is thoroughly tested from a technical viewpoint, but user studies in real organizations are recommended as further work.

Practical implications

The paper shows that human issues and issues relating to computer mediated communication (CMC) are strongly linked to technical details in SIP. In practice this means that researchers in CMC and CSCW should look more into building prototypes where real time conversational features are supported together with dynamic change of media types.

Originality/value

The main value of the paper is a thorough described technical realization of the context aware multimedia application ENriched MEdia (ENME). The background material and the appendix should be of value to anyone interested in convergence between computing and communication.
