Abstract
Purpose
Academic libraries have sought to become the leaders in the provision of information literacy (IL). The purpose of this paper is to identify to what extent IL is being promoted through institutional websites.
Design/methodology/approach
Data were collected from all UK university websites (n=133) in early 2015 to identify the promotion of IL. Content analysis was used for the five categories: IL in the mission statement, visions or strategic plan; IL model or framework; IL policy; IL assessment; and, IL training. Data collection was limited to information in the public domain which could be accessed from individual websites, which were searched and browsed systematically.
Findings
In total, 85.7 per cent of universities promote IL to some extent on their websites in at least one of the five categories, however the degree of the information provided varied extensively. Less than 6 per cent of universities promote IL at institutional level. Only 17.3 per cent refer to a model or framework, 15.8 per cent show their IL policy and 9 per cent provide information on their assessment of students’ IL skills. Information on IL training is offered on 84.2 per cent of websites, the most common method being online tutorials, although 52.6 per cent only offer training for one or two aspects of IL, primarily information seeking and citing and referencing.
Originality/value
This paper provides up-to-date data concerning how universities in the UK promote IL in the public domain via their websites. It should be of interest to academic librarians who are responsible for IL provision.

Abstract
Purpose
This paper aims to examine whether being shown a testimony alleging that the perpetrator of a crime was influenced by an accomplice has an impact on the severity of the sentence given to this accomplice.
Design/methodology/approach
A total of 119 participants read the summary of a case of armed robbery. Two experimental conditions were adopted: the presence of a testimony suggesting the accomplice’s influence on the perpetrator in committing the crime (versus no testimony). The participants were then asked what sentence they would give the accomplice and what sentence they would have given the perpetrator of the crime, who had in fact already been sentenced. The participants rated items relating to the explanation for the crime (perception that the perpetrator had been manipulated by the presumed accomplice) and to the presumed accomplice’s intent to commit the crime.
Findings
The participants showed themselves to be harsher towards the presumed accomplice when they were shown the testimony about his influence, which reduced the disparity with the sentence they would have given to the perpetrator of the crime. Analyses of mediation show that the participants shown the testimony (as opposed to those who were not) were more likely to say that the presumed accomplice manipulated the perpetrator of the crime, leading them to be more likely to attribute to the accomplice the intent to commit the crime and to be harsher towards him.
Originality/value
The results of this research are discussed with a focus on naïve interpretations of influence in the very specific context of legal adjudication.

Abstract
Purpose
The purpose of this study is to gain a better understanding of the conditions in which consumer wisdom emerges. Based on some theories of dynamic moral and needs development, the authors have designed a first model of consumer wisdom development process, taking consumption satiation (as a new concept) and self-transcendence as its possible antecedents.
Design/methodology/approach
An online survey was conducted that collected 800 responses from 2 European countries with different levels of maturity with regard to consumption: France and Poland.
Findings
The authors find that consumption satiation is positively and significantly correlated with self-transcendence. Self-transcendence is positively and significantly correlated with consumer wisdom. Age seems to be partly operating as a moderating variable.
Research limitations/implications
The findings confirm that the occurrence of consumer wisdom may be partly explained by a dynamic process based on previous consumption experiences, resulting in a certain level of consumption satiation and the concomitant development of self-transcendence needs.
Practical implications
Government bodies, consumer advocacy groups and possibly corporate actors in Europe could promote consumer wisdom not only as an idealistic and benevolent attitude but as a true sign of maturity, personal accomplishment, well-being and success.
Originality/value
This research work studies new antecedents of emerging consumer wisdom, outside personal values and socio-demographics. The authors define and identify “consumption satiation” as one promising stage in the development process of wise, responsible consumer attitudes and behaviors.

In this chapter I argue that intimate massacre and home-grown jihadi terrorism can be explained similarly through the concept of the Doomed Antihero. In both forms of public mass killing the perpetrator has subjectively experienced a long period of humiliation; he has slowly converted humiliation into rage; he has adopted an antiheroic style from a culturally available catalog to channel his rage; he has identified a symbol of his humiliation for attack; he has become determined to permanently destroy the symbol by killing people inhabiting it; and he sees “his” attack as a final act that will erase his past and reify his future.

Purpose
This study seeks to investigate whether gender and managerial status act as significant correlates of participation in voluntary training.
Design/methodology/approach
This theoretical foundation rests on human capital and systemic discrimination theories. Data come from the computerized records of a bank's employees.
Findings
Results show that both gender and managerial status have a differential impact on participation in voluntary training: women participate more than men and managers' participation is higher than non‐managers' participation. Also, individual characteristics and productivity‐related variables impact differently on participation by gender and managerial status.
Originality/value
The results showed that the probability of participating in voluntary training varies according to gender and managerial status. This probability is explained in particular by the differential effect produced by the individuals' productivity‐related characteristics (age, schooling, organizational tenure and part‐time status) according to gender and managerial status.

Abstract
Purpose
Distinguishing between physical and social aggression, this study aimed to examine whether the predictive effect of aggression on resource control is moderated by prosocial behavior and corresponds to a linear or a curvilinear trend. Moderating effects of children's social preference among peers and child sex in this context were also tested.
Design/methodology/approach
Based on a sample of 682 kindergarten children (348 girls; average age 72.7 months, 3.6 SD), multilevel regressions revealed additive linear effects of social preference and prosociality on resource control.
Findings
Moderate (but not high) levels of social aggression also facilitated resource control for disliked children. There was no such threshold effect for well‐liked children, who increasingly controlled the resource the more socially aggressive they were. In contrast, physical aggression hampered resource control unless used very modestly.
Originality/value
The present study has a number of positive features. First, the distinction between physical and social aggression improves our understanding of the relation between aggression and social competence and sketches a more differentiated picture of the role of different forms of aggression in resource control. Second, this study combines the concept of resource control with the concept of social preference and investigates curvilinear effects of aggression. Third, the direct observation of resource control in the Movie Viewer increases the internal validity of this study.

Abstract
Purpose
The purpose of this paper is to explore the relationship between psychopathic features as measured with the Psychopathy Checklist: Youth Version (PCL:YV) and behavioural and emotional functioning in young female offenders in custody.
Design/methodology/approach
This is a quantitative interview study investigating the relationship with psychopathic traits, measured with the PCL:YV (Forth et al., 2003), and different psychological characteristics as well as AD/HD, self-harm, and childhood trauma in adolescent offenders across genders. Data were collected from a sample of 40 female and 40 male adolescents who were incarcerated in Victoria, Australia.
Findings
Results indicated that the behavioural subscales of the PCL:YV were associated with externalising behaviours possibly underpinned by histories of abuse and substantiated child protection incidences. The presence of AD/HD was strongly associated with affective deficits suggesting that the PCL:YV may be identifying young females with AD/HD rather than core psychopathic traits. Findings also indicate that female-specific manifestations of manipulation are likely being misidentified as behavioural phenomena precluding clinical recognition as a core interpersonal trait. Significant dissimilarities with a young male comparison group were identified and are discussed within.
Research limitations/implications
The sample size is very small and the results should be seen as an indication rather than generalising.
Originality/value
Studies on female juvenile offenders is rare and this study adds to the literature on the construct of psychopathy and its relationship to psychosocial factors as well as associations with AD/HD, self-harm, and childhood trauma, among incarcerated adolescents.
