Abstract

Purpose

Mucorales has been described to be widely distributed during the most recent COVID-19 pandemic, with a greater frequency of disease in India, particularly among those with immune deficiencies. This study aims to use computational tools to develop a vaccine.

Design/methodology/approach

The authors investigated at Mucorales proteins that had previously been associated to virulence factors. Recent research suggests that a vaccine based on high-level cytotoxic T lymphocyte (CTL), helper T lymphocyte (HTL) and B-cell lymphocyte (BCL) epitopes from diverse proteins might be developed. Furthermore, the vaccine assembly contains the targeted epitopes as well as PADRE peptides to induce an immune response. Computational approaches were used to analyze the immunological parameters used to build the suggested vaccine and validate its TLR-3 binding.

Findings

These studies show that the vaccination is capable of triggering a particular immune response. The authors offer a technique for developing and evaluating candidate vaccines using computational tools. To the best of their knowledge, this is the first immunoinformatic research of a prospective mucormycosis vaccine.

Originality/value

During this audit, a successful attempt was made to create a subunit MEV against black fungus. In the current study, MEV has been proposed as a suitable neutralizer candidate since it is immunogenic, secure, stable and interacts with human receptors. A stream study, on the other hand, is produced via a mixed vaccinosis approach. Following that, vaccinologists may perform more exploratory testing to evaluate whether the vaccine is effective.

Abstract

Purpose

Alzheimer’s disease (AD), the most common cause of dementia, is a neurodegenerative disorder caused by the aggregation of amyloid-beta (Aβ) at outside of neuron cells and also due to tau aggregation inside the cell. Corosolic acid is aimed to be selected as a main active constituent of Lagerstroemia speciosa for the study.

Design/methodology/approach

In the present study, molecular docking of corosolic acid and tau protein was examined using PyRx-v.0.8 software. Absorption, Distribution, Metabolism, Excretion, and Toxicity (ADMET) properties were described and a molecular dynamics study of the bound complex was performed using Desmond.

Findings

The docking score and interactions suggested that the corosolic acid (CID:6918774) could bind to tau protein to prevent the fibrillar network, to prevent AD. During simulation corosolic acid-bound protein root mean square deviation (RMSD) values showed more stability when compared to the Apo form of protein. Molecular dynamics study of tau protein and corosolic acid complex gave the insights to develop a drug-like candidate against AD.

Originality/value

The use of corosolic acid of Lagerstroemia speciosa to prevent AD is supported by preliminary analysis on a computational basis. This compound should explore in terms of experimental strategies for the further drug development process. However, in vitro and in vivo evaluation studies are required to suggest the use of corosolic acid against AD.

Abstract

Purpose

Drilling holes in composite materials is a complex and challenging process because of their intrinsic anisotropic characteristics and unevenness compared to conventional metals. Hybridization of composites enhances the strength and hardness of the material but makes it more difficult to drill a hole in it. The purpose of this study is to optimize the drilling to minimize the delamination and taperness of hybrid glass fiber reinforced plastic (GFRP)/Al2O3 composites.

Design/methodology/approach

The present study investigates the impact of drilling parameters on delamination of the drilled hole and the taperness of the hole on hybrid GFRP/Al2O3. Optimum drilling conditions for minimizing delamination and taperness of the hole are determined to enhance the hole quality. Feed (f), speed (N) and drill diameter (D) are the parameters taken into consideration for drilling operation. By applying Taguchi’s signal-to-noise ratio analysis, process parameters have been optimized to reduce the delamination and taperness of holes on Hybrid GFRP/Al2O3 composites. The effect of process parameters was analyzed using the analysis of variance method.

Findings

The investigational results confirmed that the delamination is positively affected by speed, drill diameter and feed rate. Also, the taperness of the hole is positively affected by the drill diameter. Regression-based models were developed to predict the delamination and taperness of the hole matched with the experimental results, which are attained with an order of 95% and 97%.

Originality/value

Minimum delamination was found at the optimum condition of drill diameter 10 mm, feed at 0.225 mm/rev and the speed at 151 rpm and minimum taperness were found at the optimum condition of drill diameter 10 mm, feed at level 0.3 mm/rev and speed at 86 rpm for hybrid laminate composite (S-glass+ GFRP/Al2O3) were evaluated.

Abstract

Purpose

Climate change-related weather events significantly affect rice production. In this paper, we investigate the impact of and interrelationships between agriculture inputs, climate change factors and financial variables on rice production in India from 1970–2021.

Design/methodology/approach

This study is based on the time series analysis; the unit root test has been employed to unveil the integration order. Further, the study used various econometric techniques, including vector autoregression estimates (VAR), cointegration test, autoregressive distributed lag (ARDL) model and diagnostic test for ARDL, fully modified least squares (FMOLS), canonical cointegrating regression (CCR), impulse response functions (IRF) and the variance decomposition method (VDM) to validate the long- and short-term impacts of climate change on rice production in India of the scrutinized variables.

Findings

The study's findings revealed that the rice area, precipitation and maximum temperature have a significant and positive impact on rice production in the short run. In the long run, rice area (ß = 1.162), pesticide consumption (ß = 0.089) and domestic credit to private sector (ß = 0.068) have a positive and significant impact on rice production. The results show that minimum temperature and direct institutional credit for agriculture have a significant but negative impact on rice production in the short run. Minimum temperature, pesticide consumption, domestic credit to the private sector and direct institutional credit for agriculture have a negative and significant impact on rice production in the long run.

Originality/value

The present study makes valuable and original contributions to the literature by examining the short- and long-term impacts of climate change on rice production in India over 1970–2021. To the best of the authors’ knowledge, The majority of the studies examined the impact of climate change on rice production with the consideration of only “mean temperature” as one of the climatic variables, while in the present study, the authors have considered both minimum as well as maximum temperature. Furthermore, the authors also considered the financial variables in the model.

Abstract

Purpose

The purpose of this paper is to understand the dimensions of mall attractiveness for Indian shoppers from the metro cities of New Delhi, Kolkata, Chennai and Mumbai; and subsequently investigate the effect of these dimensions on shoppers’ mall experience.

Design/methodology/approach

A shopper intercept survey was conducted in the aforementioned cities and 400 responses were obtained which were analysed with exploratory factor analysis and stepwise regression.

Findings

The results indicate that tenant management, facilities management, atmospherics and entertainment potential are the factors which attract shoppers to malls. Tenant management, facilities management and atmospherics also emerge as significant predictors of mall shopping experience.

Research limitations/implications

Due to limited resources, the research results may lack generalizability. Therefore, researchers are encouraged to test the derived factors and hypothesized relationships further.

Practical implications

Contemporary retail settings have transited to offer holistic experiences, generated out of tenant mix, facilities and atmospherics. Managers of shopping malls can enhance their mall attractiveness by identifying an optimal mix of factors such as crowd management, tenant variety, parking, etc. as seen in the results of this study. Entertainment emerges as a mall attractiveness dimension but not as a significant predictor of shopping experience which shows that Indian shoppers’ inclination towards hedonism is still in elementary stages and economic pursuit continues to be a dominant motivator for visiting a mall.

Originality/value

This paper attempts to provide a holistic overview of mall attractiveness dimensions in India and its implications for shopping experiences.

Abstract

Purpose

This paper aims to explore the composition of “shopping experience” for shoppers in the metropolitan area of Delhi national capital region (Delhi NCR) in India..

Design/methodology/approach

The paper applies data reduction using exploratory factor analysis (EFA) on a sample of 200 respondents drawn from four constituent urban clusters within the NCR and condenses a set of 22 mall attributes into a list of five comprehensible factors.

Findings

The research shows that shoppers visualise shopping experience as a combination of five factors: ambience, physical infrastructure, marketing focus, convenience, and safety and security. They assigned different weightage in terms of significance to each of these factors. Internal configuration of these factors also reveals interesting patterns.

Research limitations/implications

A non‐probability sampling method is applied in this research. Future studies should replicate the research in different social, economic and geographic contexts to see if the factor composition and structure remain unchanged.

Practical implications

Mall developers in India should focus more on improving convenience and creating ambience. Disproportionate expenditure on adding to physical infrastructure is not expected to yield matching dividends.

Social implications

The study assumes significance as India has seen a rapid mushrooming of shopping malls in the recent past. Such malls are struggling to attract shoppers. The paper explores the expectations of mall shoppers in Delhi NCR

Originality/value

This paper is among the few works done on understanding Indian mall shoppers. It adds significantly to the meagre body of knowledge in this area in an Indian context.
