Abstract
Purpose
This study investigates how role overload in the sharing economy leads to emotional exhaustion, which restricts value co-creation activity, and also investigates the moderating effect of perceived platform support.
Design/methodology/approach
Two experimental investigations and field research questionnaires were given to respondents with shared mobility industry expertise.
Findings
First, role overload detrimentally affects service providers' value co-creation behavior; second, emotional exhaustion acts as a mediator between role overload and value co-creation behavior; and finally, perceived platform support moderates the adverse effect of role overload on emotional exhaustion.
Originality/value
To the best of the authors' knowledge, this study is the first to explore the antecedents of value co-creation behavior from the service provider's perspective, extending the application of COR theory in a sharing economy context.
Research limitations
First, alternative mediators between role overload and emotional exhaustion were not identified. Second, other dimensions of role overload and their impacts were not examined. Lastly, this study did not explore broader perspectives beyond algorithms.
Practical implications
This study recommends that managers reduce role overload ex ante in terms of clarifying responsibilities and obligations, providing substantive resource support and rationalizing order allocation, respectively.

Abstract
Purpose
The authors proposed a new method of fast time delay measurement for integrated pulsar pulse profiles in X-ray pulsar-based navigation (XNAV). As a basic observation of exact orientation in XNAV, time of arrival (TOA) can be obtained by time delay measurement of integrated pulsar pulse profiles. Therefore, the main purpose of the paper is to establish a method with fast time delay measurement on the condition of limited spacecraft’s computing resources.
Design/methodology/approach
Given that the third-order cumulants can suppress the Gaussian noise and reduce calculation to achieve precise and fast positioning in XNAV, the proposed method sets the third-order auto-cumulants of standard pulse profile, the third-order cross-cumulants of the standard and the observed pulse profile as basic variables and uses the cross-correlation function of these two variables to estimate the time delay of integrated pulsar pulse profiles.
Findings
The proposed method is simple, fast and has high accuracy in time delay measurement for integrated pulsar pulse profiles. The result shows that compared to the bispectrum algorithm, the method improves the precision of the time delay measurement and reduced the computation time significantly as well.
Practical implications
To improve the performance of time delay estimation in XNAV systems, the authors proposed a novel method for XNAV to achieve precise and fast positioning.
Originality/value
Compared to the bispectrum algorithm, the proposed method can improve the speed and precision of the TOA’s calculation effectively by using the cross-correlation function of integrated pulsar pulse profile’s third-order cumulants instead of Fourier transform in bispectrum algorithm.

Abstract
Purpose
The purpose of this paper is to provide an experimental basis for studying the effects of laser remelting on the surface modification of arc-sprayed Al coating.
Design/methodology/approach
A layer of arc-sprayed Al coating on S355 steel was remelted with a CO2 laser, and the surface-interface morphologies, compositions of chemical elements and phases of Al coating were analyzed with scanning electron microscopy, energy disperse spectroscopy and X-ray diffraction, respectively. The effects of laser remelting on compositions of chemical elements and bonding performance of Al coatings were discussed.
Findings
The result shows that there are some pores existing on the Al coating surface after arc spraying, and the combination mode of coating interface is primarily composed of mechanical bonding. The pores on the Al coating reduce after laser remelting, which improves the compact performance, and the mechanical binding mode by arc spraying is changed into metallurgical bonding. The Fe and Al atoms at the coating interface are distributed with gradient, and the stratified enrichment is evident, which improves binding performance of the Al coating. The Al coating exhibits general corrosion before laser remelting and local corrosion after laser remelting, which improves the corrosion resistance of Al coating.
Originality/value
The arc-sprayed Al coating is remelted by CO2 laser, improving its microstructures and bonding mode with the substrate.

Purpose
This paper aims to propose an energetic model parameter calculation method for predicting the materials’ symmetrical static hysteresis loop and asymmetrical minor loop to improve the accuracy of electromagnetic analysis of equipment.
Design/methodology/approach
For predicting the symmetrical static hysteresis loop, this paper deduces the functional relationship between magnetic flux density and energetic model parameters based on the materials’ magnetization mechanism. It realizes the efficient and accurate symmetrical static hysteresis loop prediction under different magnetizations. For predicting the asymmetrical minor loop, a new algorithm is proposed that updates the energetic model parameters of the asymmetrical minor loop to consider the return-point memory effect.
Findings
The comparison of simulation and experimental results verifies that the proposed parameters calculation method has high accuracy and strong universality.
Originality/value
The proposed parameter calculation method improves the existing parameter calculation method’s problem of relying on too much experimental data and inaccuracy. Consequently, the presented work facilitates the application of the finite element electromagnetic field analysis method coupling the hysteresis model.

Purpose
Revisiting the critical hermeneutics analysis of Wu Zetian’s case in Peng et al.’s (2015) paper, the purpose of this paper is to explore the complexity and paradox of Wu Zetian as a historical figure, and to demonstrate the potential of critical hermeneutics as an innovative methodology to study gender, diversity and history. Moreover, the authors attempt to examine some of the potential challenges and limitations of this methodology and to provide an in-depth account of the socio-politics involved in the research process.
Design/methodology/approach
This is a reflexive critique based on a framework of four central concepts of critical hermeneutics (Prasad, 2005): questions of author intentionality, layers of texts, hermeneutic circle and relating to texts.
Findings
Critical hermeneutics has great potential as well as considerable challenges and limitations in the research areas of gender, diversity and history.
Originality/value
This paper offers a lucid exposition of what critical hermeneutics is about, how it might be applied to a particular case and potential challenges and limitations of this methodology. The study is intensely reflexive and context oriented, illustrating how a deepened understanding of critical hermeneutics leads to a more informed discussion of the possibilities and limitations of the methodology, and how researchers, editors and reviewers can be influenced by the context in which the study is conducted.

Abstract
Purpose
The purpose of this paper is to examine the impact of adult children’s migration on the smoking behavior of rural parents who are left behind and raise the concern that the rural residents’ increasing tendency to migrate to urban areas in China nowadays could encourage such a behavior.
Design/methodology/approach
Using data from the China Health and Nutrition Survey and applying propensity score matching method and individual-level fixed effects model, this paper addresses the potential endogeneity issues that may arise between the children’s migration decisions and parental smoking behavior.
Findings
This study’s results indicate that rural parents left behind by their emigrant children indeed are more likely to sustain their smoking habit. The validated smoking effect of emigration calls for effective government programs that entail intervention to curb such potentially aggravating health risk, especially among middle-aged and older fathers.
Originality/value
This paper is the first to examine the impact of children’s migration on the smoking behavior of left-behind parents in rural households in China. Our findings call for immediate attention to the smoking behavior of older age cohort in China as the scale of rural−urban migration trend is expected to increase. Moreover, given that many countries in Asia, such as India, Vietnam and Indonesia, are confronting similar issues, our findings could provide useful implications for smoking cessation and control policies in those countries.

Purpose
The purpose of this paper is to present a novel scheme of high‐dynamic global positioning system (GPS) software receiver in order to improve the capturing speed and trading accuracy of GPS receiver.
Design/methodology/approach
First, the beginning of C/A code can be found through the delay and multiply approach. To solve the problems of estimating a certain satellite's Doppler shift from the signals of several visible satellites, the “delay and accumulation unit” is put forward, and besides, performance of inertial navigation system‐assisted tracking loop in high‐dynamic circumstance is analysed by means of mathematical modelling and simulation experiments, whose results verified the validity of the proposed tracking scheme.
Findings
In this paper, the two‐dimension searching process in conventional acquisition scheme is transformed into two one‐dimension searching processes, thus improving the capturing speed.
Research limitations/implications
This software receiver has only been verified by means of mathematical simulation, and the validity in hardware receiver is still obscured.
Originality/value
This paper presents a novel high‐dynamic GPS software receiver scheme, which can be seen as a reference of engineering application and simulation research.

Abstract
Purpose
The purpose of this paper is to offer novel insights into: knowledge of proto-feminism through description and analysis of the rule of the seventh century female Emperor Wu Zetian; postcolonial theory by revealing the existence and proto-feminist activities of a non-western female leader; and the literature on gender and invisibility through a study of a leading figure that is relatively unknown to western feminists and is even, in feminist terms, something of a neglected figure.
Design/methodology/approach
In order to examine Wu’s proto-feminist practices as recorded in historical materials, we use critical hermeneutics as a tool for textual interpretation, through the following four stages: choosing texts from historical records and writings of Wu; analyzing the historical sociocultural context; analyzing the relationship between the text and the context; and offering a conceptual framework as a richer explanation.
Findings
Wu’s life activities demonstrate proto-feminism in late seventh century China in at least four aspects: gender equality in sexuality, in social status, in politics, and women’s pursuit of power and leadership.
Research limitations/implications
Future research may dig into the paradox of Wu’s proto-feminist practices, the relationship between organizational power and feminism/proto-feminism, and the ways in which Wu’s activities differ from other powerful women across cultures, etc.
Practical implications
The study encourages a rethink of women and leadership style in non-western thought.
Social implications
The study supports Calás and Smircich’s 2005 call for greater understanding of feminist thought outside of western thought and a move to transglobal feminism.
Originality/value
This study recovers long lost stories of women leadership that are “invisible” in many ways in the historical narratives, and contributes to postcolonial feminism by revealing the existence of indigenous proto-feminist practice in China long before western-based feminism and postcolonial feminism emerged.

Abstract
Purpose
The purpose of this paper is to propose an improved charge simulation method (CSM) based on the real‐coded genetic algorithm (GA), in which the tedious testing and adjusting work in the traditional CSM is avoided. In addition, less simulation charges are used in the simulation model for the same object compared with the traditional CSM.
Design/methodology/approach
In the improved CSM, the information of testing points are combined with the matching points, hence the size and locations of simulation charges can be only computed by the information of matching points, and the testing calculation in the traditional CSM is avoided. According to the Maxwell equations, an overdetermined equation is reformulated, and an improved GA is used to solve it. The process to create the initial population is improved, boundary condition information of part matching points and human experience are added into the initial population, which enhanced the convergence rate of the search calculation.
Findings
Combining the information of testing points into that of the matching points in the improved CSM, the tedious testing calculation can be avoided, and the GA is effective to solve the overdetermined equation for the improved CSM. By importing the information of part matching points and human experience, the search process can be accelerated and the convergence of the method is ensured. Comparison between the efficiency of traditional CSM and the improved CSM is presented, less simulation charges are used compared with the traditional CSM for the same object.
Research limitations/implications
The improved CSM cannot adjust the count of simulation charges in the equivalent model automatically.
Practical implications
Calculations of a sphere‐plane electrode model and a 64 kV insulator string are carried out to verify the validity of the improved CSM. In addition, it can also be used to compute the power frequency electric field of HV transmission apparatuses.
Originality/value
By improving the process of the traditional CSM and importing the GA, an improved CSM for the calculation of power frequency electric fields produced by high‐voltage apparatuses is presented in the paper, which can avoid the tedious testing and adjusting work in the traditional CSM.

The purpose of this paper is to introduce robust optimization approaches to balance mixed model assembly lines with uncertain task times and daily model mix changes.
Design/methodology/approach
Scenario planning approach is used to represent the input data uncertainty in the decision model. Two kinds of robust criteria are provided: one is min‐max related; and the other is α‐worst scenario based. Corresponding optimization models are formulated, respectively. A genetic algorithm‐based robust optimization framework is designed. Comprehensive computational experiments are done to study the effect of these robust approaches.
Findings
With min‐max related robust criteria, the solutions can provide an optimal worst‐case hedge against uncertainties without a significant sacrifice in the long‐run performance; α‐worst scenario‐based criteria can generate flexible robust solutions: through rationally tuning the value of α, the decision maker can obtain a balance between robustness and conservatism of an assembly line task elements assignment.
Research limitations/implications
This paper is an attempt to robust mixed model assembly line balancing. Some more efficient and effective robust approaches – including robust criteria and optimization algorithms – may be designed in the future.
Practical implications
In an assembly line with significant uncertainty, the robust approaches proposed in this paper can hedge against the risk of poor system performance in bad scenarios.
